Mixed Weekend for Newtown Forest as Thirds Finish with Christmas Goal Fest
A disrupted weekend saw only two of Newtown Forest’s three teams in action, with a narrow defeat for the Seconds and a stunning 13-goal game for the Thirds to round off the final fixtures before Christmas.
Only two of the three Newtown Forest teams were in action this weekend, following a late cancellation of the First Team fixture against Bloomfield. It continues a frustrating run of postponements for the Firsts, with four of their last five scheduled matches now called off.
The Seconds faced Willowfield in a bottom-of-the-table clash, with both sides entering the match without their respective First Teams playing. Forest created a number of excellent chances throughout the game but were unable to convert, with the Willowfield goalkeeper producing a remarkable spell that included four saves in quick succession.
Despite Forest’s pressure, Willowfield struck with a sucker-punch goal in the first half and went on to secure a 1–0 victory. Jordan Herald was a standout performer for Forest and was deservedly awarded Man of the Match.
The Thirds, however, provided plenty of festive cheer with a thrilling 10–3 victory in a 13-goal encounter. An entertaining and attacking display delighted both management and players, making it a perfect way to sign off before the Christmas break. Sam Halliday claimed the Man of the Match award after an outstanding performance.
