Newtown Forest and Two Door Cinema Club Kit Sponsorship

Bangor's own Two Door Cinema Club are the new shirt sponsor for the Newtown Forest first team

We are delighted to announce that Two Door Cinema Club - ahead of the band’s upcoming world tour which takes in iconic venues like Madison Square Gardens in NYC, and stops at Belfast’s O2 Arena and Dublin’s 3 Arena - are sponsoring Newtown Forest this coming season.

Formed just down the road in Bangor, County Down, Two Door Cinema Club have gone from local gigs to headline slots and arenas around the world. Having a band with real Northern Ireland roots behind a cross-community club from South Belfast means a lot to everyone involved, and we're proud to carry their name on the shirt.

The kit

The new shirt is a bold departure from what we've worn before, a blue leaf print over gold, with the Two Door Cinema Club name across the front. We think it's the best looking kit the club has ever had and the first team will wear it for the first time this weekend!

The player

Two Door guitarist Sam Halliday joined the club in 2018 and has been instrumental in the 1st team’s recent success. The technical box to box midfielder played almost 30 games in last season’s promotion and cup winning year, which saw the club return to the Down Area

Premier League and win the prestigious Frank Moore Cup, with Sam playing every minute of

that run.

Of playing football Sam says “There is something quiet and essential about football at 37. The isolation of adulthood can creep in quietly - work, stress, grief, the general busyness of life - for me it’s been genuine headspace. Getting together for a joint cause and some fresh air. Not to mention there’s a pint and a bit of craic on offer after the final whistle. What makes this club special isn’t just the football; it’s the culture. It is an inclusive, compassionate, and truly community minded club built on a foundation of genuine support. Above all else, it’s a great bunch of lads and I couldn't be prouder to be a part of it.”

What it means for the club

This year the club marks 30 years of playing competitive football. It was founded by school

friends in Newtownbreda High School in 1995, and joined an official league the following year – reforming the former 97 Old Boys club (whose name remains on the club badge to

this day), before renaming to Newtown Forest in 2005.

From the first moment the club was created the underlying principle was that it would always be an all-inclusive club, and it has given hundreds of men an opportunity to play competitive sport and make connections.

Newtown Forest runs on volunteers and goodwill. Sponsorship like this covers the cost of kitting out a squad for the season, and it lets us keep membership fees down and keep the club open to anyone who wants to play, whatever their background. We'd like to thank the band and their team for getting behind us.
